REVISED RECOMMENDED PRACTICES

 

We are pleased to announce that all (11) of AACE’s cost estimate classification RPs have undergone major revisions. Although the revisions are editorial and clarifying in nature (the intent of the RPs has not changed), they are important as they provide:

  • Improved consistency and common language
  • A new section on long range planning estimates
  • An appendix explaining common pitfalls in understanding estimate class and accuracy
  • Updated and reorganized matrices describing the types and maturity levels of project definition deliverables
  • An addition of an important footnote, explaining and clarifying the importance of an integrated project plan

The revised cost estimate classification RPs are:

  • 17R-97: Cost Estimate Classification System
  • 18R-97: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Process Industries
  • 47R-11: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Mining and Mineral Processing Industries
  • 56R-08: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Building and General Construction Industries
  • 69R-12: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Hydropower Industries
  • 87R-14: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Petroleum Exploration and Production Industries
  • 96R-18: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Power Transmission Line Infrastructure Industries
  • 97R-18: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Pipeline Transportation Infrastructure Industries
  • 98R-18: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Road and Rail Transportation Infrastructure Industries
  • 102R-19: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Qualification for the Pharmaceutical and Related Industries
  • 107R-19: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Environmental Remediation Industries

An Excel file comparing the maturity level of project definition deliverables across industries for all currently published cost estimate classification RPs is available to AACE members here (not available to non-members). 

 

In addition, the following two RPs have also undergone editorial revisions:

  • 79R-13: Level of Effort Planning and Execution on Earned Value Projects – Within the Framework of EIA-748
  • 91R-16: Schedule Development
